Ralsko – the dominant feature of the Geopark
The dominant feature that stands out a mile. It is 400 metres higher than its surroundings. It is the queen of the local landscape.
What will you see? The highest mountain around, volcanic rock, a stone sea, a circular view ... Ralsko is a true dominant feature of the landscape. It is a hard volcanic monadnock formed from the softer surrounding sedimentary rocks. In the top part, the volcanic rock (tephrite) reaches the Earth’s surface in the form of a huge wall. As a result of gradual frost weathering, a large stone sea emerged on the slopes of Ralsko, currently inhabited by rare species of plants and animals. The top, on which a mediaeval castle was built, offers a wonderful circular view of the surroundings.
