Stohánek – a sandstone lighthouse in the middle of forests
A sandstone butte suddenly rises from the pine forests, resembling a large rock tower. Due to its isolation, it forms an island of a relict forest.
What will you see? A sandstone butte, the remains of a small rock castle and hermitage, a relict forest, a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside ... This small butte owes its existence to the presence of a harder sandstone layer. Thanks to this layer, it was spared from erosion and now stands out above the surrounding relief. If you climb to the top on the staircase carved in the rock, you can see the alternating layers of sandstone – once layers of sand deposited on the bottom of the Mesozoic sea. The isolation of this rock formation was a condition for preservation of the relict mixed forest in the top part. This part also offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area.
