Čertova stěna (Devil’s Wall) – was the rock wall created by the devil?
The legendary Great Devil’s Wall used to be a continuous rock wall. Nowadays, however, it has almost been exhausted.
It is here that the largest stope can be found. What will you see? The largest stope of Velká Čertova zeď ... A distinct basalt rock stope on the vein of Velká Čertova zeď. The stope is the largest of those that have survived on this vein. It is 65 metres long, 8.5 metres wide, and reaches a depth of 14 metres. The basalt mined here was used mainly for the construction of local roads, because it is a very hard rock of high quality. Velká Čertova zeď is connected with an interesting legend. According to this legend, this once-continuous rock wall was built by the devil himself. Unfortunately, only small remnants of the wall have been preserved. Most of the wall was exhausted in the past.
